It remained active for a long time and then got devastated by fire in the year 1951. No doubt it was a huge loss, but after undergoing extensive reconstruction and modification the Grand Theatre Genève came back again with its shows in the year 1962. This time the show was started with grand opera by Don Carlos and Giusepe Verdi. Though it was closed for a long period of time its charm was not at all affected.  People came in a huge crowd to witness the shows. Along with this, it is a dream of top artists to come down to Geneva only to show their talent at this very theatre. It is nothing but a matter of pride.

The theatre can easily fit 1500 people comfortably under its roof. But due to rush, it is always suggested to get the tickets pre-booked. Currently, the theatre is under construction and will come back again in the year 2019; until then Opera des Nations will be the momentary site for all the performances.
